PROUD newspaper boss Rupert Murdoch said an emotional farewell to his mum yesterday, declaring he was a “grateful son”.
The News Corporation chairman led tributes to Dame Elisabeth Murdoch — who died two weeks ago aged 103 — at a state memorial in Australia.
Hundreds of mourners joined Mr Murdoch and his wife Wendi for the service. He told St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne: “She knew we started out with many advantages in life, but the greatest was the one she gave us all — we knew we were loved.”
The Sun’s owner added: “With mum, it was OK to stumble. She just wanted to make sure we understood the impact our choices had on others.”
Dame Elisabeth, patron to more than 100 charities, died 60 years after her beloved husband Sir Keith Murdoch.
